Asus ROG Phone 9 FE launches as a (somewhat) cheaper gaming phone

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE is a smartphone with a 6.78 inch FHD+ AMOLED display featuring a 165 Hz refresh rate, support for up to 16GB of LPDDR5x memory, and a focus on gaming: the phone has "AirTriggers" on one side that you can use as gaming buttons, and a version of the Asus Anime Vision panel on the back of the phone that uses LED lights to illuminate a pixelated Asus ROG logo.

In other words, the phone looks a lot like the Asus ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 that launched in late 2024. But, the new model is a little cheaper and a little less powerful.

Asus hasn't launched the ROG Phone 9 FE globally yet, but the Brian Trek at AndroidTreasure noticed that Asus is now selling the phone in Thailand.

Specs and images listed on the Asus Thailand website are pretty much a match for the leaked specs that began making the rounds last month, but now we have some more information that confirms the differences between this phone and other members of the ROG Phone 9 family.

The biggest difference? The ROG Phone 9 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor while the ROG Phone 9 FE has a previous-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3chip. That's still a pretty good processor, but it's not quite as powerful.

A few other small difference? The screen tops out at a 165 Hz refresh rate rather than 185 Hz and the phone is available with up to 256GB of storage instead of the 512GB or 1TB options available in higher-priced models.

Otherwise the phones are very similar.
