Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra features Snapdragon 8 Elite and a 6.78 inch 144 Hz display

The Zenfone 12 Ultra is the latest flagship phone from Asus that's not marketed as a gaming phone. But you could certainly use it as one if you wanted to because while it may lack features like "airtriggers" and RGB lighting, it's a powerful phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and a 6.78 inch, 2400 x 1080 pixel OLED display with up to a 144 Hz refresh rate.

Asus hasn't announced US pricing or availability for the phone yet, but it should be available in Europe for €1000 and up starting this week. That price includes a €100 discount though, so retail prices might be a bit higher in the coming weeks and months.

The phone's display supports refresh rates as low as 1 Hz or as high as 120 Hz for normal use, or up to 144 Hz while gaming. It's also a bright screen with support for up to 1600 nits brightness in HBM mode or up to 2500 nits peak brightness.

Entry-level configurations feature 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, but Asus also offers a higher-priced 16GB/512GB option. The phone comes in black, white and green color options.

Cameras include a Sony Lytia 700 50MP primary camera with a gimbal stabilizer for optical image stabilization , a 13MP 120 degree wide-angle camera, and a 32MP 3X telephoto camera plus a 32MP front-facing camera. In other words, the same camera system featured on the ROG Phone 9 Pro, which also has the same processor an da similar display.

Other features include stereo speakers, three microphones, and a 3.5mm audio jack with support for 384 KHz 32-bit audio, support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC, and dual-SIM, dual-standby support.

The phone has a 5,500 mAh battery and support for 65W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and the Zenfone 12 Ultra is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.

Asus says the phone will ship with Android 15 and, like virtually every flagship phone these days, it supports a bunch of AI tools including software for transcribing meetings, summarizing web pages and documents and providing real-time translations during calls. There are also AI camera features that are supposed to improve voice clarity and object tracking when shooting video.

Some features, like "circle to search" are cloud-based features offered by Google, while others leverage Meta's Llama 3 8B language model to run locally on your device. So web page and document summaries, for example, are done locally without sending your data over the internet.

The Zenfone 12 Ultra ships with Android 15 and should receive at least two major OS updates and four years of security updates.
