The Light Phone line of handsets are positioned as minimalist phones that do less than most modern smartphones, while still letting you make calls, send messages, and perform basic functions… without giving into the temptation to spend hours doomscrolling.
But that doesn't mean users don't want a nice screen or a decent camera. So last year Light began taking pre-orders for the Light Phone III with an updated processor, larger screen, bigger battery, and a few fancy features like a fingerprint sensor, front and rear cameras, and support for 5G networks. Now the company says it's begun shipping devices to the earliest customers who paid for the phone back when it was selling for $399.
The phone is still available for pre-order, but prices have risen to $599 and customers who order one today won't receive a Light Phone III until July at the earliest. Eventually Light plans to charge a retail price of $799 for the phone which feels a bit steep for a gadget in this category.

Here's a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.
The Light Phone III is a distraction-free phone with a 3.92 inch black and white AMOLED display with a matte glass cover, a side scroll wheel, and a basic feature set. It's now shipping to folks who pre-ordered last summer. New Orders ship in July.
