AYANEO Pocket ACE hits Indiegogo (retro handheld with a 4.5 inch display and Snapdragon G3x Gen 2)

The AYANEO Pocket ACE is an Android-powered pocket-sized handheld game console with a 4.5 inch, 1620 x 1080 pixel IPS LCD display featuring a 3:2 aspect ratio, a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen  2 processor, and at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

First unveiled in March, the Pocket ACE is now available for pre-order through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. But with early bird prices starting at around $340, it might be a tough sell.

On the one hand, the handheld has pretty decent specs for an Android-based game system including hall sensor joysticks and linear triggers, a 6,000 mAh battery and support for 40W fast charging (although there's no charger included), and Qualcomm's chip designed for mobile gaming devices. It has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port for power and 10 Gbps data transfer speeds, and a microSD card reader for removable storage.

On the other hand you can buy a Steam Deck LCD for $399 and get a full-fledged handheld gaming PC capable of running thousands of Windows PC games.

That's not to say that I can't see the appeal of a device like the Pocket ACE. At 176 x 82.5 x 18.4mm (6.9″ x 3.2″ x 0.7″), it's a lot smaller than a Steam Deck, and at 310 grams (11 ounces), it's less than half the weight, making AYANEO's latest handheld a much more portable system.

Some of the gaming handheld's other features include a six-axis gyroscope, a vibration motor, a fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button, and support for WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3. It ships with Android 13 and the AYASpace user interface and AYAHome launcher.

Early Bird reward levels range from $339 for an 8GB/128GB model to $599 for a 16GB/1TB Retro Power Edition model, with expected retail prices running between $459 and $699. There are also a few tiers in the middle for 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations.
