GMK Evo-X2 mini PC with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 ships in May, up for pre-order now for $1499 and up

The GMK Evo-X2 is a little computer that packs a lot of processing power thanks to an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo processor with 16 CPU cores, 32 threads, Radeon 8060S integrated graphics and an NPU with up to 50 TOPS of AI processing performance.

First unveiled in March, the Evo-X2 is now available for pre-order in the US… kind of. If you visit the GMK website you can reserve one of the upcoming computers today with a relatively small deposit. But you'll have to pay the remaining balance on May 7th when the GMK Evo-X2 is expected to begin shipping.

The pricing information on the GMK website is a little confusing, but basically there are two models of the EVO-X2: one with 64GB of LPDDR5x-8000 onboard memory and a 1TB SSD and another with 128GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

GMK is asking customers to put down a $100 deposit for the cheaper model or a $200 deposit for the higher-spec version. And if you do that you'll get an additional discount when the balance is due. Here's what that means:

The 64GB/1TB model has a $1499 presale price, but if you put down a $100 deposit you get a $200 discount (including the deposit). So you'll be asked to pay $1299 on May 17th for a total of $1399.

The 128GB/2TB version has a $1999 presale price, but if you put down a $200 deposit you get a $400 discount. That means customers who pay the deposit will pay $200 up front and $1599 on May 7th for a total of $1799.

Both versions of the mini PC have the same Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor configured with a 140 watt TDP, presumably giving the chip a little more headroom than it would have in a laptop or tablet.

While the chip's integrated GPU offers discrete-class performance, the PC makers that are pushing systems with this processor are following AMD's lead and emphasizing the AI capabilities of this sort of setup. Not only does the processor have a 50 TOPS NPU, but the chip supports up to 126 TOPS of total AI performance when you leverage the CPU and GPU. And while most gamers probably don't need 128GB of RAM, the reason this system supports that much is because it's unified memory that can be accessed by the CPU and GPU (this is also why the system uses onboard memory that's soldered to the motherboard rather than user-replaceable RAM).

The GMK Evo-X2 also has an M.2 slot for a user-replaceable PCIe 4.0 SSD,  a 230W power supply, and a MediaTek RZ717/MT7925 wireless card with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
