DC-ROMA launches a $349 RISC-V mainboard with an 8-core CPU and 50 TOPS of AI performance and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS support

Deep Computing's new DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC is a single-board computer with an ESWIN 7702X octa-core processor featuring SiFive P5550 RISC-V RV64GC CPU cores with support for frequencies up to 2GHz, a GPU with support for hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, and an NPU that delivers up to 40 TOPS of AI performance. According to Deep Computing, the system supports up to 50 TOPS when you leverage the CPU, NPU, and GPU together.

First announced earlier this year, the DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC is now available for purchase for $349. That price gets you a computer with 32GB of RAM and a Cooler Master case. But you can also pop the mainboard out of the case and fit it into a Framework Laptop 13 if you'd rather use this as the brains of a laptop.

This is actually the second Framework Laptop 13-compatible mainboard from Deep Computing. The original was a cheaper board that launched in February featuring 8GB of RAM and a StarFive JH7110 quad-core processor with SiFive U74 CPU cores support speeds up to 1.5 GHz.

The new model should bring a significant boost in CPU and AI performance… although it's still probably best to think of this as a development platform rather than a general purpose computer. RISC-V architecture is still not as well supported as x86_64 and ARM. So while Deep Computing says the board supports Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, it's likely that you'll run into performance or compatibility issues with some apps.

While the DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC doesn't ship with any storage, the mainboard supports PCIe NVMe SSDs and SD cards. There are also four full-featured USB-C ports with support for data, video, and power.

Meanwhile if you don't need the octa-core processor or AI capabilities, you can pick up the original DC-ROMA laptop with a 14 inch display and a quad-core processor for $299, or the first-gen RISC-V Mainboard for the Framework Laptop for $209.
