ECS debuts Liva Z8 Plus mini PC with AMD Strix Point at Computex

The ECS Liva line of computers are small form-factor desktops that range in size from models that can fit in the palm of your hand to larger, slim system that look like they'd be right at home next to a cash register or attached to the back of a monitor.

Ahead of this week's Computex show in Taiwan, ECS announced plans to show off several new models, but the company didn't provide many details about what to expect. Now thanks to a brief booth tour by YouTuber goldfries, we've got some information about one of the first ECS Liva mini PCs powered by an AMD Strix Point processor.

The ECS Liva Z10 Plus is a small desktop PC that measures 147 x 147 x 56mm (about 5.8″ x 5.8″ x 2.2″). Inside the case it has an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point 12-core, 24-thread processor with 16-core RDNA 3.5 graphics and an NPU that delivers up to 50 TOPS of AI performance.

There are also two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe 4.0 x4 storage, an M.2 2230 slot for a wireless card, and support for up to 64GB of DDR5-5600 or LPDDR5-7500 memory.

I'd take that last spec with a grain of salt though – according to a product description placed near the mini PC, the system supports either two SODIMMs for DDR5 or two for LPDDR5 memory… but LPDDR5 memory doesn't use the SODIMM form factor. It's typically soldered to the mainboard (unless it's attached to an LPCAMM module). The 64GB limit is also suspicious – now that 48GB sticks of memory are a thing, most systems with this processor support up to 96GB.

Other Liva Z8 Plus details include support for Windows 11 or Linux, and a set of ports that includes:

  • 2 x USB 4 Type-C (with support for data and video)
  • 4 x USb 3.2 Gen 1 TYpe-A
  • 1 x HDMI
  • 1 x DisplayPort
  • 2 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet
  • 2 x combo audio jacks
  • 1 x DC power input
  • The computer is said to come with a 19V/120W power supply and also has two built-in microphones that could be used for voice calls or for speaking to virtual assistant software, among other things.

ECS hasn't announced how much the Liva Z8 Plus will cost or when it will be available for purchase.

Other new models are expected to include the Liva Z6 Plus, Z10 Plus, and Z11 Plus, but I haven't found detailed specifications for those models yet.
