Earlier this year mini PC maker MINISFORUM launched a compact desktop computer called the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro. With an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point processor, it combined a 12-core, 24-thread CPU with 16-core graphics and an NPU that delivers up to 50 TOPS of AI performance. But with a $929 starting price, the little computer may be a bit expensive for some potential customers.
Now MINISFORUM has introduced a more affordable model called the MINISFORUM A1 X1. It's available with a choice of AMD Ryzen Hawk Point or Strix Point processor options and prices start as low as $379 for a barebones model at time of publication.
MINISFORUM AI X1 The company actually introduced the non-pro version of the MINISFORUM A1 X1 a few months ago, but at the time it was only available with an AMD Ryzen 7 260 Hawk Point processor. Now MINISFORUM is taking orders for models with three different processor options:
Each is available as a barebones configuration for folks that want to bring their own memory, storage, or operating system. Or you can pay extra for fully configured systems with a 1TB SSD, Windows 11 software, and 32GB or 64GB of RAM.
MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro By comparison, MINISFORUM sells the higher-performance AI X1 Pro with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor only in 32GB/1TB, 64GB/1TB, and 96GB/2TB configurations. So not only does the non-Pro model come with lower-performance processor options, but the starting prices are lower because you don't need to pay for the memory and storage if you don't need those features.
Prices start at $379 for a barebones model with a Ryzen 7 255 chip, $439 for a Ryzen 7 260 model, or $579 for a version with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 365 processor. Those prices jump to $539, $599, and $829, respectively, for the lowest-price models that do come with memory and storage.
MINISFORUM AI X1 The non-Pro version of the mini PC also has a smaller footprint, measuring 128 x 126 x 52mm (5″ x 5″ x 2″) compared with 195 x 195 x 48mm (7.7″ x 7.7″ x 1.9″) for the Pro version. But there are a few reasons for that:
MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro All models have two SODIMM slots for DDR5-5600 memory, wireless cards with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 and support for up to four displays. And all models have 40 Gbps USB4, 64 Gbps OcuLink, HDMI, and DisplayPort jacks.
The Pro model has a few extra features including a Copilot button on the front of the case (for better or worse) and an integrated fingerprint sensor on the top. The AI X1 (non-Pro), on the other hand, has a built-in speaker, which the Pro model lacks.
