Earlier this year Google revealed that while it will continue to support the Android Open Source Project by releasing source code for each new build of the operating system, the actual development would start taking place in private. So when the company released Android 16 this week and some people noticed that Google was had not released device trees and drivers for its own Pixel-branded devices, some folks jumped to the conclusion that this was the beginning of the actual end for AOSP.
Android Authority's Mishaal Rahman explains that this probably isn't the case. But the move is going to make things challenging for folks that build custom ROMS… not only just for Pixel devices, but for other phones and tablets as well.
