AYANEO Flip 1S clamshell handheld gaming PCs hit Indiegogo with keyboard or dual-screen options available

The AYANEO Flip 1S is a handheld gaming PC with a Nintendo DS-like clamshell design that features a 7 inch, FHD, 144 Hz OLD display on top and game controllers on the bottom.

But unlike the Nintendo DS, the Flip 1S is a full-fledged Windows PC with and AMD Ryzen processor. And it also comes in two different configurations: the AYANEO Flip 1S DS is a dual-screen device with a second screen positioned between the controllers, while the AYANEO Flip 1S KB has a QWERTY keyboard for thumb typing instead of dual screens. Both are available for pre-order now through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, and they're expected to begin shipping to backers in September, 2025.

The new AYANEO Flip models are upgraded versions of the company's first generation handhelds, which launched in 2024 but were discontinued earlier this year before all orders had been fulfilled. Some key changes include an upgraded primary display (OLED instead of IPS LCD and 144 Hz instead of 120 Hz), optional support for AMD Strix Halo processors, upgraded controllers and speakers, and a bigger second screen on the DS.

Early Bird prices start at $779 for a Flip 1S KB with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U Hawk Point processor, 16GB of  RAM, and a 1TB SSD or $799 for a Flip 1S DS with similar specs. Retail prices are expected to be about $200 higher.

Backers can also spend $200 more to snag Ryzen 7 8840U models with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Or if you want bleeding-edge performance, prices start at $1279/$1299 for models with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Halo chips, 32G of RAM, an 1TB of storage.

The Strix Halo model should deliver a significant boost in CPU, graphics, and AI performance for folks who can afford the upgrade. And AYANEO also offers Strix Halo versions with up to 64GB of RAM.

Both handhelds run Windows 11 Home and come with AYASPACE 3.0 software. If you opt for the dual-screen model, that includes software that provides a virtual keyboard or trackpad as well as the ability to monitor system performance, launch apps, adjust settings, or view game content on the bottom screen (opening the possibility of NIntendo DS emulation, among other things).

The Flip 1S has an aluminum lid and a stepless hinge that allows you to open the screen at up to a 180 degree angle. There's a vapor chamber and cooling fan inside the case in order to help with cooling. And while the computer's memory is soldered to the mainboard, there is an M.2 2230 slot for user-replaceable storage.
