The MeLE Overclock X2 is a compact desktop computer that's barely larger than a smartphone, measuring 178 x 94 x 21mm (about 7″ x 3.7″ x 0.8″). But it's a full-fledged PC with an Intel processor, a decent set of I/O options, and something you won't find in any phone: support for user-replaceable memory and storage.

If the Overclock X2 looks familiar, that's because its body is identical to the Overclock 4C. But while that older model features Intel N100 or Core i3-N300 Alder Lake-N processor options, the new model has an Intel N150 quad-core "Twin Lake" chip.

That's not exactly a major upgrade – Twin Lake chips are basically Alder Lake-N refresh processors. They're based on the same CPU and GPU architecture, but bring small boosts in maximum frequencies.

In this case, a MeLE Overclock 4C with a Core i3-N300 chip will likely outperform the newer OverClock X2 with an Intel N150 processor. But the new model does have a few advantages including lower power consumption and an affordable starting price: the Overclock X2 is available from AliExpress for $209 and up.

Both mini PCs have a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 48GB of single-channel DDR4-3200 memory, an M.2280 connector for a PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe or SATA SSD, and a microSD card reader.

There's also an eMMC 5.1 module – the starting price is for a MeLE Overclock X2 with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB eMMC, but not SSD.

Ports include:

  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps, full featured)
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
  • 1 x USB Type-C (for 12V/3A or higher power input)
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2 x HDMI 2.0
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x microSD card reader
  • The system also has a fan for active cooling, and a wireless card with support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.

The "Overclock" in the computer's name comes from MeLE's BIOS/UEFI firmware that lets you adjust some settings in an effort to improve performance. While MeLE does not offer tools for adjusting the CPU or GPU frequencies, you can adjust the power limits of the computer's Intel processor.
