One Netbook is expanding its line of graphics docks with a new model called the ONEXGPU Lite. Like the original ONEXGPU that launched in late 2023, the new model provides an external AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU that can be connected to laptops, desktops, or handheld computers for a graphics boost.
What's different this time is that the ONEXGPU Lite has a Thunderbolt 5 port, which could theoretically boost performance… assuming you've got a computer with a Thunderbolt 5 port to plug it into.
One Netbook hasn't announced pricing, availability, or detailed specs for the new eGPU yet, but the company posted a short teaser video that gives us a first look at what appears to be a smaller device than the company's previous models, which probably helps explain why the new version is called "Lite," even though it supports higher data transfer rates.
While earlier models featured 40 Gbps USB4 ports and 64 Gbps OCuLink connectors, Thunderbolt 5 supports up to 80 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth or up to 120 Gbps of asymmetrical bandwidth.
There aren't many PCs that actually have Thunderbolt 5 ports yet, but the protocol is backward compatible, so you could still use the ONEXGPU Lite with older machines that have Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 ports. You just won't get the same throughput.
It's unclear if One Netbook made any other changes to the new model to reduce the size, but I wouldn't be surprised if this model has fewer ports and/or is missing an M.2 slot for storage.
