AYN Thor is dual-screen Android handheld game console with OLED displays and Qualcomm Snapdragon inside

The AYN Thor is an upcoming handheld game console with a clamshell design: flip the lid upward and you're greeted by a 6 inch OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate on top and a set of game controllers on bottom.

What makes it unlike most handhelds is that in between those game controllers you'll find a second screen: a 3.92 inch OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate. AYN began dropping details about the AYN Thor earlier this week, and the company has now revealed more information about the handheld, which goes up for pre-order August 25 at 9:30PM with prices starting at $249.

The company plans to offer models with two different processor options. Entry-level configurations will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, 8GB of LPDDR4-2133 memory, and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage plus support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

Higher-performance (and higher-price) models will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 16GB of LPDDR5x-4200 memory, and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage and support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3

Those processors aren't exactly state of the art – the Snapdragon 865 was released in 2020 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 came out in 2022. But they were both flagship-class processors at time of release, and should be capable of handling most native Android games as well as emulation of a wide range of game consoles.

Prices will start at $249 during crowdfunding for models with Snapdragon 865 processor during an upcoming crowdfunding campaign, or $299 for models with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips. Retail prices will be at least $10 higher.

AYN has also revealed that the Thor handheld will have a 6,000 mAh battery, USB 3.1 Type-C and 3.5mm audio jacks, a microSD card reader, and an Android 13-based operating system. The handheld measurea 150 x 94 x 25.6mm while weighing 380 grams.

That make this dual-screen handheld smaller and lighter than its chief competition – the AYANEO Pocket DS measures 179.8 x 101.8 x 25mm and weighs 540 grams. But AYANEO's handheld also has a higher capacity 8,000 mAh battery.

What's a little more surprising is that the Thor is also more compact than AYN's last single-screen handheld: the AYN Odin 2 measures 225 x 98 x 17mm and weighs 420 grams.
