Mini PC maker GEEKOM is preparing to launch its first model powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo processor. The company plans to show off the upcoming GEEKOM A9 Mega at the IFA show in Berlin next week.
The system measures 171 x 171 x 71mm (6.7″ x 6.7″ x 2.8″), making it one of the smaller computers to feature this high-performance processor. But there's still plenty of room for a versatile set of ports and other features.
GEEKOM says the mini PC offers enough cooling performance to let the 16-core, 32-thread processor with a discrete-class 40-core Radeon 8060S graphics run at up to 120 watts. And like most systems with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chips, the GEEKOM A9 Mega supports up to 128GB of on-board LPDDR5x-8000 memory with up to 256GB/s bandwidth.
While the memory is not user-upgradeable, there are two M.2 2280 slots for user-replaceable PCIe 4.0 x4 SSDs. Inside the computer's all-metal case there's also a wireless card with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, copper heat pipes, and dual fans that draw air in through the bottom of the mini PC and push it out through the back.
Around the outside of the computer you'll find a set of ports that includes:
There's also a DC power input for the computer's external 19V/330W power supply, dual microphones built into the PC, and a fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button on the front of the computer.
GEEKOM hasn't announced how much the A9 Mega will cost or when it will be available. But given that the GEEKOM A9 Max with a less powerful AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point chip recently went on sale for $999, it seems safe to say that the new A9 Mega will cost more than that. Other systems with AMD Strix Halo processors tend to start at around $1500.
