Lenovo is one of the world's largest PC makers and the company ships millions of laptop and desktop computers for home and office use. But Lenovo also has a habit of making some of the weirdest laptops around in an effort to push the boundaries of what we expect from a portable computer, even if some never make it past the concept stage and others are only produced and sold in small quantities.
The latest example? Lenovoy plans to show off a new concept laptop at IFA next week that features a display that rotates 90 degrees to switch from landscape to portrait orientation. At this point it's still a proof of concept called the Lenovo Vertiflex and it's unclear if it'll ever see the light of day. But recent leaks show that Lenovo already has a working prototype.
There are no details about things like screen size, processing power, or other specs. But Evan Blass shared a leaked image on social media, and ZDNet published a short video a little early (and which I expect to disappear any moment now).
They show a relatively thin notebook that looks like a pretty standard model at first glance. But the display is attached to a back panel with a special hinge that allows you to flip the screen so that it's vertical instead of horizontal, which could come in handy if you're viewing vertical videos, reading text-based documents, or want to open multiple apps in up-and-down windows instead of side-by-side, among other things.
It's unclear whether the Lenovo Vertiflex laptop with a rotating display will ever move past the concept phase. But it arguably wouldn't be the strangest notebook the company has brought to market.
After all, Lenovo is the company that currently sells a notebook with a rollable display, and which previously brought us models with features like:
Lenovo hasn't officially confirmed the existence of the Veriflex concept laptop yet, but we'll most likely learn more about it when IFA kicks off next week.
