The first Xbox handhelds are almost here. Microsoft and Asus announced in June that they had developed two new handheld gaming PCs called the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. At the time the companies revealed most of the key specs, but left out a key detail: how much the handhelds would cost.

Now that they're available for pre-order, we know: $599 and $999, respectively.

Both handhelds build on the Asus ROG Ally brand – Asus was one of the first major PC makers to launch a handheld gaming PC following the launch of the Steam Deck (and many years after smaller players like GPD and AYANEO pioneered the space).

But the new Xbox-branded handhelds feature new internals, updated designs with controller-like grips, and a new Xbox user interface that should make Windows a little easier to navigate on a handheld computer that lacks a keyboard and mouse.

Both models have 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel, 120 Hz displays and AMD processors. But unsurprisingly the $999 model has a much more powerful processor, more memory and storage, a bigger battery, and a faster USB port, among other things:

While $999 makes the ROG Xbox Ally X one of the most expensive mainstream handheld gaming PCs and the most expensive Xbox console to date, it's also one of the most powerful handhelds available for purchase in late 2025. There are a handful of other models with Ryzen AI HX 370 chips that should offer similar performance, but most come from smaller companies like One Netbook, and AYANEO.

One model that is significantly more powerful? The GPD Win 5, which has an AMD Strix Halo processor with up to 40 RDNA 3.5 GPU compu te units. But that's an even more expensive handheld, with prices starting at around $1450 during crowdfunding and an expected $1600 retail starting price.
