DuRoBo Krono pocket-sized eReader now available for pre-order, ships in November

The DuRoBo Krono is a phone-sized gadget that's easy to slip into your pocket. But with a 6.13 inch E Ink Carta 1200 greyscale display, it's designed for distraction-free reading rather than for phone calls and social media.

It does have a mic and speakers though, allowing you to record voice notes and listen to media. There's a "smart dial" on the side for quick access to a voice mode. And it runs an Android 13-based operating system with support for third-party applications. First unveiled in July, the Krono is officially launching during IFA in Berlin: DuRoBo is a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, and plans to begin shipping units to backers in November.

DuRoBo says the Krono will go for $279 during crowdfunding (or €279 in Europe or $250 in most other regions). A limited number of Early Bird rewards will also be available for lower prices and come bundled with a leather case.

Prices are expected to be a little higher after crowdfunding ends, and that might make the DuRoBo Krono a tough sell at a time when you can purchase an Onyx BOOX Palma 2 for $300 or less. That pocket-sized eReader has the same display, memory, storage, and battery as the Krono and it's been around longer so customers can read reviews and look for support from a community of users.

The main things that make the Krono stand out are the smart dial on the side and software: DuRoBo is positioning its device as an AI companion with a simplified app launcher and "minimalist UI," among other things.

While DuRoBo hasn't specified the processor is inside the Krono, the company says it's an octa-core chip. The device also features 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,950 mAh battery. It has a USB-C port for data and charging, and its E Ink display is a 824 x 1648 pixel screen with 300 pixels per inch.
