Lenovo Legion Go 2 has a bigger battery, brighter display, faster processor… and higher starting price

The Lenovo Legion Go has been a popular Steam Deck alternative since it first launched nearly two years ago. But that doesn't mean there's no room for improvement to Lenovo's 8.8 inch handheld with detachable controllers.

Earlier this year the company launched the lower-cost Legion Go S with a slightly smaller screen, built-in controllers and a choice of Windows or SteamOS software. And now the company is preparing to release an upgraded model. The new Lenovo Legion Go (2nd-gen) has the same basic design as the original, but it brings a faster processor, brighter display, bigger battery, and better detachable controllers. It's also more expensive: the 2nd-gen Legion Go will be available in Europe this month for €999 and up before launching in the US in November for around $1049 to $1099.

Like the original Legion Go, the new model has an 8.8 inch touchscreen display, a built-in kickstand, and a set of controllers that can be attached to the sides for use in handheld mode or detached for use as wireless controllers.

But Lenovo's new model has a 1920 x 1200 pixel, 144 Hz OLED display with up to 1000 nits of brightness, support for up to an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor with Radeon 890M 16-core graphics, and a 74 Wh battery.

The screen resolution was higher on the original Legion Go, but that model had an IPS LCD display that wasn't as bright, a 49.2 Wh battery, and a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

Other updates include the addition of a fingerprint sensor, improved thermals with an extra heat pipe and improved airflow, and new "True Strike" game controllers that Lenovo says offer better ergonomics, 6 repositioned programmable macro buttons, and a concave "pivot" D-Pad that the company says offers better precision.

Lenovo says the new controllers are backward compatible with the original Legion Go, although it's unclear at this point if the company plans to sell them separately for folks that want to upgrade and/or replace a broken or missing controller.
