Lilbits: Qualcomm launches Snapdragon X2 Elite and Extreme PC chips and Snapdragon 8 Elite for mobile

Qualcomm's next-gen PC and mobile chips are coming soon, and you probably won't be shocked to learn that the company is promising big performance gains. While the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to bring some nice improvements to smartphones and tablets, I'm particularly interested in the new Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Extreme processors for Windows PCs.

That's because while Qualcomm has expanded its PC offerings over the past two years, it's mostly done that by introducing cheaper, less powerful processors than its flagship Snapdragon X Elite processor. Now the company is introducing next-gen chips that promise big gains in CPU, graphics, and AI performance as well as support for newer technologies like PCIe 5.0.

Here's a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme chips for PCs have NPUs with up to 80 TOPS of AI performance, a 2.3X boost in GPU performance per watt, and up to 18 CPU cores for up to 31% faster overall performance. Devices coming in 2026. www.qualcomm.com/news/release…
