TCL Tab 8 NXTPAPER 5G is $200 tablet with TCL’s latest paper-like display technology

The TCL Tab 8 NXTPAPER 5G is a tablet with an 8.7 inch, 1340 x 800 pixel, 90 Hz display, a MediaTek MT8755 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. With a $200 price tag, it's a relatively affordable alternative to something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A11.

But there are a few things that set TCL's tablet apart. One is that it has built-in support for 5G wireless networks. Another is that it's the first 8(ish) inch tablet to feature TCL's NXTPAPER 4.0 technology.

NXTPAPER 4.0 is the latest version of the company's paper-like display tech that combines the full color, full-motion qualities of an LCD screen with anti-glare properties that might not quite be at the same level as E Ink, but which use nano-matrix lithography and other techniques to make screens look and feel more like paper than glass.

There's also a NXTPAPER Key on the tablet that lets you switch between "standard," "color paper" and "ink paper" modes to change the color profile from full color to a more muted color pale tte, or a greyscale view.

But this tablet is still very much a budget device. Its processor features two ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores with support for frequencies up to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores that top out at 2 GHz. The tablet supports 4G LTE and 5G networks, but tops out at WiFi 5 speeds. It supports Bluetooth 5.3. There's an 8MP camera on the back and 5MP front-facing camera, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port for charging and data.

The tablet's 6,000 mAh battery isn't bad for a device with these specs though, and TCL does include a microSD card reader with support for up to 2TB of removable storage. The tablet ships with Android 15 (and no promise of future updates), and it measures 8.34 x 4.94″ x 0.33″ and weighs 12.52 ounces.

Currently available in the US exclusively from Verizon, the TCL Tab8 NXTPAPER 5G costs $200 if you buy it outright, but you can also spread that out over 3 years by paying $5.55 per month.
