Most Amazon Kindle devices are designed first and foremost for reading. But the Kindle Scribe line of products are made for writing as well as reading, so they have bigger screens, digital pen support, and software features that let you take handwritten notes, draw images, and more.
The first Kindle Scribe with a 10.2 inch display and pen support launched in 2022, and Amazon released an updated model last year. Now the company is introducing three new models. There's a new $430 Kindle Scribe with an 11 inch display and no front light and a $500 version that has a front light. And for the first time Amazon is introducing a Kindle Scribe Colorso ft that has a color E Ink display and a $630 starting price.

Amazon says the entry-level model without a front light will be available "early next" year, but the other two models will go on sale in the US "later this year."
According to Amazon the new models may hav e larger displays than their predecessors, but they're actually thinner and lighter, at just 5.4mm thick and 400 grams (the 2nd-gen Kindle Scribe is 5.7mm thick and weighs 433 grams).
The company hasn't provided detailed specs for the new models yet, but says that they feature a "new quad-core chip" and "more memory." Among other things, that means they should be "40% faster for writing and page turns."
Models with front lights feature new "miniaturized LEDs that fit tightly against the body to create a narrow bezel and uniform lighting," and all three new models of the Kindle Scribe have a new textured glass finish to make them feel more like paper when moving a pen across the surface.
Unsurprisingly for a 2025 product launch, Amazon is also highlighting new AI features including "AI-powered search" that can provide summaries of documents on your device, and follow-up responses when you ask questions about what you've found. Next year th e company will also add a feature that lets you send notes and documents from a Kindle Scribe to Alexa+ so you can "have a conversation about them."
Other software updates include a redesigned Home screen with a Quick Notes feature for jotting notes right away, support for 10 pen colors and 5 highlighter colors when using the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and a shader tool for creating digital artwork.
