Lilbits: Perplexity’s AI web browser is now free, TypePad is dead, and Apple smart glasses coming in 2027?

The Apple Vision Pro is widely regarded as one of the most impressive virtual and mixed reality devices available. But with a $3,499 starting price, they're also out of reach for most folks. So Apple has been working on a lower-cost model that's also supposed to be lighter weight and more comfortable to wear.

But a new report suggests that Apple is putting that project on hold so it can shift resources to smart glasses in an effort to avoid ceding ground to Meta, which has been selling audio-only glasses for the past few years and recently introduced its first model with a display. It could be a few years before we see (or hear) the results, but this wouldn't be the first time Apple was late to the party – the company didn't make the first portable media player, smartphone, or tablet. But the iPod, iPhone, and iPad all eventually became major players in each of those spaces.

Here's a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

Apple has been working on a cheaper version of Vision Pro, but is no w said to be shifting resources to wok on smart glasses to compete with Meta's. The first could be audio-only glasses set to launch in 2027, followed in 2028 with a version that has a display. www.bloomberg.com/news/article…
