Ploopy’s Nano 2 is a minimal trackball mouse with a single button

Ploopy has been making trackball mice and other niche computer input devices for more than six years, including models with classic designs, one of the only decent USB touchpads available for Windows PCs, and some quirky devices like the Ploopy Nano Trackball, which is about as basic as an input device can get.

Now the company has introduced the new Ploopy Nano 2, which brings a better sensor and a single user-configurable button. It's available now for for $59 CAD (about $42 USD).

This minimal input device has a 3D printed body that measures just 62 x 54 x 49mm (2.4″ x 2.1″ x 1.9″) and features a 38mm (1.5″) ball that comes in red, black, or blue color options.

The Ploopy Nano 2 has a PAW-3222 sensor with a 1,000 Hz polling rate and a default setting of 1,000 CPI (counts per inch), but support for up to 4,000 CPI.

The new model has a customizable button, but it's an optional feature – you can ignore it and act like this is a buttonless trackball if you want. But you can also configure it to perform a variety of actions using the open source QMK firmware.

Other features include a USB-C port for connecting the Nano 2 to a computer and a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller.
