Microsoft may have just raised prices for its Surface Laptop and Surface Pro tablet, but the company is also preparing to launch new models that… will also probably be expensive. According to a new report from Windows Central, not only is Microsoft planning to use the latest Intel and Qualcomm chips, but some Surface Laptop models will also now be available with OLED displays. Oh yeah, and RAM and storage aren’t expected to cheaper anytime soon, so expect high prices.
And in other recent tech news from around the web, Amazon hasn’t said that its new Fire TV Sticks run Vega OS instead of the Android-based Fire OS to make it tougher to use them for piracy, but it’s likely that’s at least part of the reason. Now the company is announcing a change to its Kindle apps that may also be part of an effort to fight piracy… although it could also just make it tougher to read your eBooks on unsupported devices.
Kindle for PC
Amazon isn’t mentioning piracy in a new message telling users that it plans to end support for the existing Kindle for PC app in June, instead directing users to a new Kindle for Windows 11 app coming to the Microsoft Store soon. But after releasing several updates to the Kindle for PC app in recent years aimed at making it tougher to download Kindle eBooks to your PC to strip DRM from them, it seems likely that this is at least part of the reason for the change.
Report: Microsoft plans to launch Surface tablets & laptops with Intel Panther Lake chips this spring, and models with Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chips this summer. The Surface Laptop is also getting an OLED display option. www.windowscentral.com/hardware/sur…
