Part of what makes Raspberry Pi's tiny computers special is that they're cheap, making them widely accessible to students, educators, hobbyists, and businesses alike. But the global RAM shortage has hit PC makers hard, causing many to raise prices. And that's especially noticeable from a company that got its start by selling $35 computers.

Raspberry Pi has increased prices for some models several times in the past few months. And now the company is introducing a new model targeting price-conscious customers who want more than 2GB of RAM, but aren't willing to pay for as much as 4GB. Meet the new 3GB Raspberry Pi 4.

Raspberry Pi 4 (now available with 3GB of RAM)

Currently priced at $83.75, this model costs more than an 8GB model did at launch ($75). But that model first hit the streets in 2020, long before the current RAM shortage.

These days, Raspberry Pi 4 models with 1GB or 2GB of RAM are still pretty cheap (if you can find them in stock), with $35 and $45 price tags, respectively. But following a February, 2026 price increase the cost of a 4GB model rose to $75, while an 8GB version hit $115.

Now Raspberry Pi is announcing another price hike, bringing the prices of Raspberry Pi models with more than 2GB of RAM even higher:

  • Raspberry Pi 4 3GB – $83.75
  • Raspberry Pi 4 4GB – $100
  • Raspberry Pi 4 8GB – $165
  • If those price hikes were taking place under normal circumstances, I'd say that most folks might be better off looking for a budget mini PC with an Intel N100 processor. But prices for most PCs are up these days, so good luck finding a better deal.

That said, prices for Raspberry Pi 5 models are starting to look silly… particularly if you want a model with 16GB of RAM.

Raspberry Pi 5 prices are even higher with today's price increase:

  • Raspberry Pi 5 4GB – $110
  • Raspberry Pi 5 8GB – $175
  • Raspberry Pi 5 16GB – $305
  • To put that in perspective, the Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB of RAM sold for just $120 at launch.

Other models that are getting price increases include the Raspberry Pi 500 computer-in-a-keyboard, most Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 or later units, and the Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2.

Meanwhile some models with less RAM aren't affected: Raspberry Pi isn't raising prices on the Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 with 2GB of RAM or less, the Raspberry Pi 400 with 4GB, or Raspberry Pi Zero or Zero 2 models, among others.
