The new System76 Pangolin Pro is a Linux laptop with a 16 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel, 165 Hz matte LTPS display, an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 “Krackan Point” processor. Compared with the previous-gen Pangolin laptop, that processor upgrade along might be enough reason to call this a “pro” model. But it also has a few other improvements.
Among other things, the new model has a bigger battery, a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port, an an OCuLink connector that gives you an external 4-lane PCIe Gen 4 interface for a high-speed connection to graphics or storage docks. But those upgrades come at a cost… literally. The new Pangolin Pro laptop is available now for $1699 and up. That’s $400 more than the starting price for the version System76 launched in late 2024.

The starting price gets you a laptop with 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory, a 500GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, and a 1-year warranty. With two SODIMM slots and two M.2 2280 slots, you can either pay to upgrade the memory and storage at the time of purchase or bring your own upgrades in the future.
But in times of global RAM & storage shortages, you’ll end up doubling the price of this laptop if you opt for a model with 96GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

There’s also optional support for a wireless card with support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
The laptop ships with a choice of Pop!_OS or Ubuntu Linux pre-installed.
Ports include:
Other features include a 1080P webcam, a single-color backlit keyboard and multitouch touchpad, and stereo speakers. The laptop comes with a 100W USB Type-C power adaptor.
One thing that I find particularly interesting is that this year’s model has a larger battery than its predecessor (80 Wh vs 57.75 Wh), but weigh s less (3.64 lbs vs 3.82 lbs).
