LILYGO T-Deck MAX is an upgraded mobile dev kit with an E Ink screen, QWERTY keyboard and 4G LTE

The LILYGO T-Deck MAX is a mobile communications device with an ESP32-S3 microprocessor, a 3.1 inch E Ink display, a QWERTY keyboard, and support for WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, and LoRa. In other words, it’s a lot like the T-Deck Pro that launched more than a year ago.

But while 4G LTE is optional on the Pro, it’s standard in the new Max model. And LILYGO has added several additional hardware features to the new model, which is available now for $110.

That means the  new model costs $15 more than a 4G version of the T-Deck Pro, but LILGYO doesn’t really make it easy to find the differences between the two devices on its website. Fortunately, there’s a list on the GitHub page for the new T-Deck MAX. The new model has:

  • XL9555 IO expansion chip (for additional GPIO)
  • A new LoRA antenna selection switch
  • A new audio channel output selection switch
  • A new DRV2605 vibration motor chip
  • Other features remain largely the same. There’s still a 320 x 240 pixel greyscale display, an SX1262 LoRA transciever, and a 1500 mAh battery, and microSD card reader among other things.

And while the device looks like a smartphone, it’s not really meant to be a consumer device. Instead it’s positioned more as a programmable mobile communication s device for developers and hobbyists.
