ACEMAGIC N3A is now available for $339 (NAS with room for 4 HDDs, 2 SSDs, and up to 64GB ECC RAM)

The ACEMAGIC N3A is a small computer with room for a lot of storage. Positioned for use as a network-attached storage system, the PC features four bays with support for 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch SATA hard drives and two M.2 slots for PCIe 3.0 SSDs.

When ACEMAGIC first unveiled the system in February, the company said it would be powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor. But now that it’s actually available for purchase, it looks like the company went in a slightly different direction. With an AMD Ryzen Embedded R2544 chip under the hood, the ACEMAGIC N3A has a slightly less powerful GPU than expected. But it picks up support for up to 64GB of ECC RAM, which could come in handy for folks looking to set up a NAS or home server.

ACEMAGIC says the N3A has a list price of $499 for a barebones model, but it’s on sale for $339 at time of publication.

Keep in mind that a barebones model ships without memory or storage, so the total cos t will be higher if you don’t already have some lying around.

The ACEMAGIC N3A has two SODIMM slots, each supporting up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory and two M.2 2280 slots, each with support for up to 4TB of storage. When outfitted with up to four hard drives, the computer offers up to 136TB of total storage space, although usable storage will obviously be lower if you configure the system to duplicate data across drives for redundancy.

The computer measures 270 x 150 x 185mm (10.6″ x 5.9″ x 7.3″) and has a metal chassis and a removable front panel that’s held in place by magnets, making it easy to remove when you want to access the drive bays.

There’s also a microSD card reader for removable storage, and a set of ports that includes:

  • 1 x 2.5 Gigabit ethernet
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps with DisplayPort Alt Mode)
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
  • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0
  • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x DC power jack (19V/6.3A)
  • ACEMAGIC says the system supports up to 3 displays and can run Windows or Linux. With an x86 processor, it should be able to handle a wide range of popular NAS operating systems such as Unraid, TrueNAS, or OpenMediaVault.

While the Ryzen Embedded R2544 chip is an older processor that was released in 2022 based on AMD’s Zen+ architecture, the 4-core, 8-thread chip has a base CPU frequency of 3.35 GHz, max boost frequency of 3.7 GHz, and should generally offer better single-core and multi-core performance than an Intel N150 processor (which has proven a popular option for mini PCs and NAS systems in recent years). It also supports Error Correcting Code (ECC ) memory, which could be key for folks looking for a more robust, reliable system.

But with a 35-54W TDP, this chip is also a lot more power hungry than a 6-watt Intel N150 processor.
