AOOSTAR WTR Max 11-drive NAS with AMD Hawk Point now available for pre-order for $699

The AOOSTAR WTR Max is a network-attached storage (NAS) system with an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8845HS "Hawk Point" processor, support for up to 128GB of RAM, and support for up to 11 storage devices thanks to 6 slots for 3.5 inch drives and 5 M.2 2280 slots for SSDs. It also has a robust set of ports for high-speed networking, among other things.

First unveiled earlier this year, the AOOSTAR WTR Max is now available for pre-order for $699 and it's expected to begin shipping "around May 10th."

On the front of the computer you'll find 6 bays that can be used to insert 3.5 inch hard drives, giving you a way to add large amounts of storage capacity without breaking the bank. But the M.2 slots also let you add speedy, silent storage that can be used for caching or primary storage.

Not all of those M.2 slots are created equal though. Three are PCIe 4.0 x2 slots, while two are PCIe 4.0 x1 slots.

The computer has two SODIMM slots, each of which supports up to 64GB of DDR5-5600 memory. And if you're wondering why AOOSTAR opted for a Ryzen 7 PRO 8845HS chip instead of the non-pro variant, it's probably because the Pro version of this chip supports ECC memory… and so does the AOOSTAR WTR Max.

The systems ports include:

  • 2 x 10 Gbps SFP+ (Intel X710)
  • 2 x 2.5 Gbps Ethernet
  • 1 x OCuLink (64 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB4 (40 Gbps w/DisplayPort Alt Mode)
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ( Gbps)
  • 1 x HDMI 2.1
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x microSD card reader
  • 1 x DC power input
  • One thing to keep in mind is that while you can use the OCuLink port to connect an external graphics or storage, it does not support hot swapping – you'll need to power down the system to connect or disconnect hardware to the OCuLink port.

The AOOSTAR WTR Max has an all-metal body that measures 249 x 245 x 195 (9.8″ x 9.6″ x 7.7″) and features a cooling system with four fans and a vapor chamber heat spreader. There's also a small LCD display on the front of the system which can show CPU, GPU, RAM, and data usage information thanks to an AOOSTAR-NAS control application that runs on Windows or Linux.
